Trip Itinerary:

Day 1: Lima

Meeting upon arrival in Lima, transfer to hotel. (If your flight arrives in the morning you will have the day at leisure to relax and enjoy the hotels amenities or we can arrange an optional tour.)

Day 2: Lima

After breakfast we will drive through the Pueblo Libre district and visit the Larco Herrera Museum housed in an 18th century colonial mansion that holds the most extensive collection of Pre- Columbian art in Peru. It contains fine examples of textile work, one of which has a record breaking 398 threads per inch, as well as the tools ancient Peruvians used to produce textiles, metals, huaco ceramics, gold and silver pieces with semi precious stones. For lunch, dine in one of Lima’s finest restaurants. (B, L)

Day 3: Lima / Sacred Valley

Morning transfer to airport. Meeting upon arrival in Cuzco, transfer to the Sacred Valley and visit the Pisac market. The towns main square is transformed each day into a local market where villagers from near and far gather to buy, sell and barter everything that one could possible imagine. Time to walk through the market and interact with locals to see and feel how everyday Andean life is like. After lunch at a beautiful hacienda we will visit one of the most charming towns in Peru, Ollantaytambo and home to an impressive and once important Incan fortress. Time to explore the ruins and wander the cobblestone streets before return to your hotel in the Sacred Valley. (BLD)

Day 4: Sacred Valley

After breakfast you will visit Chinchero an important village during the Incan Empire. After lunch we explore Maras and Moray, Maras is an area that has large amounts of salt deposits; ponds were built into the mountain and used to evaporate the water leaving the salt behind to be exported. Next we continue to Moray an Incan archeological site that has several large circular terraces that were used for agriculture. The Incans were able to simulate different temperature zones by planting crops in different areas and levels of the terraces allowing them to produce amazing harvests at different times of the year. Day 5: Sacred Valley / Machu Picchu

Transfer to the train station and board the Hiram Bingham a deluxe train and your transportation to Machu Picchu. Sit back and enjoy the amazing views out the window as you dine on fresh gourmet Peruvian food and are entertained by local musicians. Arrive in Aguas Calientes and board the shuttle bus that will take you to the top of the mountain and the entrance to Machu Picchu. A tour and explanation of this new addition to the seven wonders of the world will leave you in awe. After you will have time to explore on your own or enjoy tea at the Sanctuary Lodge and your home for the night. (BLD)

Day 6: Machu Picchu / Cuzco

Your location has advantages; being one of the first people inside the park when it opens and explore on your own while you watch the sunrise. Visit the “Gateway to the Sun” or perhaps challenge your self to climb to the top of Huayna Picchu mountain for amazing views of Machu Picchu. In the afternoon re-board the Hiram Bingham for your journey back to Cuzco while enjoying dinner and cocktails. Transfer to hotel. (BLD)

Day 7: Cuzco

Today we will set out to tour the city and the surrounding ruins. Visit the Santo Domingo Convent, the main Cathedral, walk through Plaza de Armas before heading to Sacsayhuaman, one of the most emblematic ruins of the Incas. Continue to the archaeological sites of Quenqo and Puka Pucara before returning to Cuzco. Tonight enjoy dinner at the Columbian Art Museum. (BD)

Day 8: Cuzco / Lima

Transfer to airport, meeting upon arrival in Lima, “The city of kings”. Begin your journey at Casa Aliaga, a former royalty house built in 1535 and is the only house of that time that still belongs to the same family today. Next we visit the Cathedral of Lima located in the Plaza Mayor, it is considered to be Peru’s most important cathedral. Continue to the Larco Museum and discover five thousand years of history and pre- Columbian art, gold and silver artifacts and erotic pottery. Enjoy a farewell dinner in one of Lima’s fine restaurants before transferring to the airport. (BD)
