Meeting upon arrival in Panama City, transfer to hotel. Depending on your arrival time, the remainder of day will be at leisure or an optional tour can be arranged.
After breakfast we will head out and explore the Casco Viejo (old town) of Panama . Climb to the top of the Cathedral tower, visit the old Panama Musuem and the Casco Antiguo which dates back as far as the 1600’s. After some time to wander the streets of old town we will visit The Miraflores Locks at the Panama Canal. Here you will have the opportunity to see massive cargo ships enter the locks at sea level and begin the first part of raising the ships to move through the canal. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing along the canal zone to the to the town of Balboa. After some time to explore we will return to Panama City. (BL)
Today you will have an amazing opportunity to kayak in the Panama Canal watershed. After a quick safety lesson your guide will lead you in navigation into the Canal Zone. Paddle through Soberania National Park and witness lush primary rain forest, keep your eyes open as this area is home to an abundance of wildlife. After great day on the water transfer to your hotel in the Rainforest. (BL)
Today you will get to come full circle on your tour of the Panama Canal. Transfer to the pier and board the Pacific Queen and experience this engineering marvel at work. Enter the Canal at the north end of the Gailard Cut, where the Chagres River flows into the Canal. The Gaillard Cut (also known as Culebra Cut because its curves resemble a snake) is one of the main points of interest for visitors because it was carved through the Continental Divide and this section of the Canal is full of history and geological value. The Pacific Queen will travel the Cut’s 13.7 kilometers on the way to Pedro Miguel Locks which is 1 of the 2 sets of locks on the Pacific side, and here the vessel is lowered 9 meters in one step. After exiting Pedro Miguel you will enter Miraflores Lake, which is a small artificial body of fresh water that separates Pedro Miguel from Miraflores Locks. At Miraflores Locks the vessel is lowered an additional 18 meters in 2 distinct steps. Before entering the Pacific Ocean you will pass under the Bridge of the Americas and Panama City’s splendorous skyline. Transfer back to hotel. (BL)
