Trip Itinerary:

Day 1: Welcome to El Salvador

Meeting upon arrival and transfer to your hotel. Remainder of day is at leisure as other participants may be arriving on later flights. Close to the hotel is a nice open air mall that has great shops, cafes and entertainment. (D)

Day 2: Flower Route

Morning departure to Volcanoes National Park, a UNESCO biosphere reserve where three amazing volcanoes Izalco, Santa Ana and Cerro Verde surround beautiful Coatepeque Lake. Izalco Volcano was known to early mariners as the “Lighthouse of the Pacific” since its lava guided the ships along the Pacific coast. Time for a morning yoga practice overlooking Izalco Volcano and the Pacific Ocean. After yoga you will have the opportunity to learn about the volcano’s and the importance they play in the fragile ecosystem. Hike to the top of a volcano and explore the fascinating flora and fauna of the region. Later in the day participate in a community service activity with local children. Transfer to the Flower Route that consists of four main villages Nahuizalco, Juayua, Apaneca, and Ataco. The area is know for its pleasant weather, stunning views, charming colorful villages, festivals and friendly people. Overnight in Ataco. (BLD)

Day 3: Flower Route

Morning yoga practice at a coffee hacienda followed by a coffee plantation tour, learn about the steps that coffee goes through from planting, harvesting, picking, drying and roasting until it’s brewed and finds it’s way into your morning cup. After you will be able sit back, relax and enjoy a fresh cup of mountain coffee. After lunch you can choose from two different adventure activities, a buggy tour through the coffee plantations or zip line above the forest. (BLD)

Day 4: Flower Route / Suchitoto

Morning yoga practice. Todays journey takes us east to Suchtoto one of El Salvadors best preserved colonial villages. Along the way we will stop at Hacienda Los Nacimientos where we will learn about Indigo, a natural colorant extracted from the Xiquilite plant. Indigo was a very important element used by the Mayans as a form of medicine to cure aliments and to dye clothing and pottery. Learn how indigo is processed and art techniques used on clothing as you design your own scarf that you will take back as a souvenir. Continue on to Suchitoto the cultural capital of El Salvador. It’s impossible to not fall in love with this colonial town, discover the cobblestones streets, large balconies, tile roofs, doorways, porches and windows that will take you back in time to the colonial days. Remainder of day at leisure to explore Suchitoto. (BLD)

Day 5: Suchitoto / Jiquilisco Bay

This morning enjoy a rare opportunity to practice yoga in the town square of Suchitoto with the Santa Lucia Church in the backdrop. Santa Lucia Church was built in 1853 and is one of the most photographed churches in the Americas. After yoga we will head to Jiquilisco Bay, a UNESCO Biosphere reserve and is El Salvador ́s largest and most important wetland. Jiquilisco Bay is home to mangrove forests, estuaries, sand bars, beaches, 27 individual islands and fresh water lagoons. Jiquilisco Bay also offers something that we all love, Chocolate! Learn about the special type of Cacao that is grown in the area. Criollo, a special type of Cacao is considered to be of the highest quality in the world. Visit a plantation where you can see, touch and taste the fruits right off the trees. Next we continue to a monkey community. Walk through the forest until we reach an area that the monkeys spend most of their time. Your guide will begin to call their names and amazingly the monkeys will descend from the trees allowing you the opportunity to interact with them in their natural environment. After we will head to the coast and meet up with a biologist, board a boat and head out into the bay where you will assist the scientist capture an endangered Hawksbill sea turtle and conduct test in order to gather important data regarding the health of the turtle. After the turtle is released unharmed into the wild we will head back to shore and visit a turtle nursery and learn about the conservation efforts and with a little bit of luck there will be some baby turtles hatching and you can watch as they make their journey to the sea. Day 6: El Icacal Beach

Morning yoga practice. Transfer to El Icacal Beach, a small community of about 40 families and one of El Salvador’s best beaches. Here we will meet up with a charity organization called Share Smiles and some local school children. Visit their school and where you will have the opportunity to practice English and Spanish with them and assist with their studies. Over the next few days you will have the opportunity to work with the school kids and other community members on various projects centered on education and conservation. All projects are sponsored by Share Smiles and are aimed at improving the lives of the local community in the most sustainable way possible. Transfer to Las Flores surf and yoga resort. Time to explore and enjoy the resorts facilities and beach. (BLD)

Day 7: El Icacal Beach

Morning yoga practice followed by community work at the school. Later enjoy the opportunity to take a surf lesson in an area that is considered to be a world-class surfing location. Time to explore and enjoy the resorts facilities and beach. (BLD)

Day 8: El Icacal Beach

Morning yoga practice followed by community work at the school. Afternoon at leisure to explore and enjoy the resorts facilities and beach. Tonight will be a farewell party. (BLD)

Day 9: El Icacal Beach/San Salvador

Morning yoga practice. At the appropriate time transfer to airport. (B)
