Meeting upon arrival in San Jose, transfer to hotel, remainder of day at leisure to relax. (Depending on what time you arrive an optional tour of San Jose can be arranged)
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the local airstrip for a short flight to Puerto Jiménez located on the Osa Peninsula. Upon arrival, four wheel drive transportation will be waiting to transfer you to Lapa Rios Eco lodge. Lapa Rios is an eco lodge that was designed to exist in harmony with the environment and that strives to teach visitors the importance of preserving fragile tropical forests. The bungalows at Lapa Rios are located on a property that is more than 2500 acre of preserved forest that allows guests the opportunity to share a true natural experience with the plants, birds and animals that surround them. After dinner depart on a jungle trail for a night walk with a naturalist who will point out and offer insight on the ecology of the jungle as the night creatures come to life. (BLD)
After breakfast set out to explore the rainforest with your guide as they will point out flora and fauna of the daytime as the jungle is a vastly different environment between day and night. Explore a spectacular waterfall that is surrounded by giant trees. (BLD)
Morning at leisure to explore on your own. After lunch, you will learn about the medicinal plants that can be found through out the forest. You will learn how the healing properties are extracted from the leaves and tree barks which scientist are currently studying. This is a unique and rare opportunity to discover the secrets and traditions that have been used by the indigenous people of the tropics. (BLD)
Morning transfer to local airstrip for you flight to Arenal, an area know for it’s perfect cone shaped volcano that is still active today. Transfer to your hotel, time to relax and enjoy the views of the volcano and the hotel facilities. (B)
After breakfast you will visit the Arenal Volcano National Park; an easy hike through the park allows you to understand how fragile and important the recovery from the 1969 eruption is to the environment of the area. As you hike along the different trails you will see the recent lave flows while other trails you will hike under the canopy of the rainforest. Under the jungle canopy there will be an opportunity to see the many different species of plants and animals. Tonight, visit the Tabacon Hot Springs, these natural hot springs are the results of rainwater that is heated underground to the perfect temperature before resurfacing into a gentle flowing river of cascading waterfalls and wading pools that are surrounded by lush tropical gardens. After breakfast you will be transferred to the small village of San Ramon located in the Los Angeles Cloud Forest on the western edge of the Central Volcanic Cordillera. This short transfer offers breathtaking views of the rainforest and picturesque landscapes of rural and agricultural communities before arriving at your charming mountain hotel. Hotel Villa Blanca is a property where comfort goes hand in hand with conservation. The hotel’s philosophy is to combine the hospitality of the Costa Rican rural style with a deep respect for the natural environment. The afternoon is at your leisure to relax in the conform and enjoy the rainforest, or you can go to any of the self-guided trails which offers great opportunities to discover the rainforest at your own pace.
