Day 4: Coffee Region

Your Classic Colombia tour is on the move, as today we will take a short flight into the Coffee Region and take a private transfer to your hotel. The Coffee Region for many is the heart and soul of Colombia. With every turn, a spectacular panorama changes your perspective. From the rolling hillsides of fertile coffee plantations to plunging valleys and bold elevations. Often called The Coffee Triangle, it gets its name from the three different sections making up the region. They run in a North to South line following the Central Andean Corridor. Caldas is the most Northerly; in the middle is Risaralda and lastly Quindio. All three are flanked by the snow-capped peaks of the Los Nevados National Park. (B)

Day 5: Coffee Region

Today we will go on a half day Coffee Culture Tour. Coffee makes Colombia tick, and it’s the heart and soul of the region and its culture. This journey will take you through some stunning scenery, carpeted rolling hills of lush green coffee, plantain and yucca. With a tour of an amazing coffee plantation, we will see the entire process from seedling to coffee mug and every part in between. The lines pass over coffee plantations and terrain that can only be appreciated from this higher elevation and speed! The rest of your day will be at your leisure and can be one of total relaxation by the pool, or if you choose you can safely explore the country life on a nature walk where you will encounter many different species of bird and butterflies, see the workers in the plantain and pineapple plantations, walk past the pastures grazed upon by a herd of Brahma cattle (B)

Day 7: Coffee Region / Cartagena

After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Cartagena, also known as “Jewel of the Caribbean”. Cartagena was formerly the Caribbean gateway port used by the Spanish. Here they would store the riches plundered form the interior before they were transported back to the old world. It is not surprising therefore that the city was a draw for buccaneers and pirates who attempted on many occasions to sack the city, most notably by Sir Francis drake in 1586 who “mercifully” agreed not to level the city in return for 10 million pesos that he carted back to England. It was after the attack by Drake that plans were made to fortify the city and work on the defensive walls began. These walls still stand today and mark the boundary between the old and new parts of the city. Cartagena’s rich history, diverse culture and energy absorbs every visitor allowing them a glimpse into the past and a chance to relax in superb surroundings. (B)

Day 8: Cartagena

Today we will take a half day city tour of Cartagena. Your tour will take through the old town under the Puerta Del Reloj (Clock tower entrance), a symbol of Cartagena, into the Plaza de los Coches. Your guide will divulge the myths and legends, histories and stories of Cartagena from ancient times right up to the present. From the Plaza San Pedro Claver with its stunning Church, on through to the Plaza Bolivar; with its shady areas, where a fresh lemon juice can be enjoyed while watching the world go by. (B)

Day 9: Cartagena

Today will be a day of leisure, but rest assured you will have plenty to keep you occupied with a free day in Cartagena. The streets are alive with life and people watching is an endless activity. This can be done strolling the cobbled streets or from the comfort of a local restaurant with cool fruit juice in hand. Cartagena is an attraction in itself, but there are also plenty of local shops to occupy even the most ardent shopper. If you fancy a good walk (or taxi if you don’t) a trip down to the beaches of Boca Grande will let you soak up some sun and see how the locals enjoy their city beach. Optional tours available. (B)

Day 10: Cartagena – Bogota
