Chile Easter Island also know as Rapa Nui by the locals is located 2,355 miles off the coast of Chile and is the singularly most-isolated island on earth. The island is home to more than 600 giant statues called Moais and is one of the world’s most intriguing sightseeing experiences. Meeting upon arrival, transfer to hotel, reminder of day at leisure.
Morning drive to see the Rano Kau, the southernmost volcano on the island. Afternoon visit to the ceremonial site of Ahu Akivi, located in the Roihi area. Then visit the archeological site of Puna Pau, a small crater of red stone and is where the Pukao or hats were carved. (B)
You start your day with a visit to the ancient site of Vinapu, here the Moais that once stood atop ceremonial platforms before they were toppled. Visit the site of Vaihu, where the Moais wearing the stone hats can be seen, continue to the Rano Raraku Volcano, one of the most important archeological sites on the island, here almost all of the Moai were built. An easy walk to its crater you will see the Totora Lagoon. Continue to Ahu Togariki, home to the famous fifteen standing Moais, the largest ceremonial statue cluster on the island. (B, BL)
