Meeting upon arrival. Board a domestic plane for a short flight to Placencia, a slender peninsula that runs parallel to the mainland of Belize and is home to some of the country’s most spectacular beaches. Once an old fishing town that dates back to the ancient Mayans, today Placencia has a small and relaxed feel to it’s downtown with plenty of restaurants, bars and a colorful mix of expats and Creole locals all enjoying the good vibes. Placencia’s real attractions are the unlimited activities available for the modern day explorer. Diving, snorkeling, sailing, explore nearby mangroves and deserted cayes by kayak, deep sea fishing or relax on a sunny beach. Want to see wildlife, a visit to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary a jaguar reserve or hop on a boat and cruise the Monkey River home to manatees, crocodiles, green iguanas, and scores of birds. There are also the Mayan ruins of Lubaantun and Nim Li Punit waiting to be explored as well. Meeting upon arrival, transfer to hotel.
After breakfast its time to swim with the fish, transfer to the dock and board a motor boat for a short transfer to the reef and island destination. The specific snorkeling destination will vary from day to day depending on weather conditions and guest preference. Some of the reefs that are explored are Laughing Bird Caye, Silk Caye, Ranguana caye or Pompion caye. Once we arrive at the designated caye there will be an equipment check and your guide will give a briefing. We then begin snorkeling from the beach, enjoying a variety of tropical fish and colorful coral formations. Break for lunch and relaxation before exploring another snorkeling spot in the afternoon. Return back to the mainland and transfer to your hotel after an amazing day exploring some of Belize’s best reefs. (BL)
Today you will explore the Monkey River, a wonderful nature and wildlife tour where you take a boat into the lush jungle. Have your cameras ready to see crocodiles, manatees, monkeys, green iguanas, and a host of exotic birds. A easy hike through the jungle allows you to connect with nature as we look for wildlife and learn about the different plants and trees that are native to Belize. Return to hotel in early afternoon, remainder of day at leisure. (B)
