Tim Will Help Plan Your Next Travel AdvenutrePanama is often thought of as a country that separates oceans and divides continents. However, if you dive in you will quickly realize that Panama is the land mass that has linked the world, ideas and our cultures together.  Panama, home to the greatest engineering accomplishment of the 20th century, tropical rain forests, spectacular beaches, uninhabited islands, indigenous communities, high mountain coffee farms, world class diving and every imaginable water and land adventure that one can think of.  Get ready, you’re on your way to Panama!

At the first glimpse of Panama City, many travelers notice a remarkable, fast-paced, cosmopolitan city that combines ultramodern architecture, deluxe amenities, and conveniences that remind you of the cities that are found back home. Look again and you will notice colorful colonial buildings, ruins, traditional culture, pirate lore and an East meets West, Central meets South, anything goes attitude that has helped to shape the most forward thinking and open-minded society in Latin America.  Panama City is a financial powerhouse with many of Central and South America’s banks located here. With banks comes money. Nowhere else in Latin America is the money so obvious as it is in Panama City. Luxurious highrise condos, shopping districts that will have you asking, “Am I in Paris, Milan or New York?” and world renowned restaurants. No need to worry, if glitz and glamour is not your thing, spend the day wandering the cobblestoned streets of Casco Viejo (the old city), and enjoy the slower paced laid back lifestyle. Grab a cold drink at a sidewalk cafe and try and imagine what life was like here four hundred years ago when pirates roamed the waters offshore.  A must do while in Panama City is to see what imagination and determination looks like by visiting the Panama Canal.  There are two ways to experience this marvel. You can visit the Miraflores Locks and witness the enormous cargo ships from around the globe passing through the locks from the viewing platform, or you can board a small ship and cruise through the canal like the skipper that you are.

Enough big city for one trip? Then it’s time to explore the many rainforests located in Panama.  Listen to the soothing sounds of the jungle, breathe fresh air, and unwind in the rainforest.  When you’re ready for some adventure, the rainforest has plenty to offer. Hike through the jungle, climb to the top of the canopy tower and view the forest from tree level, kayak on Gatun Lake, visit indigenous communities or sit back and relax and enjoy a bird’s eye view aboard the aerial tram through the jungle to see exotic wildlife.  Want to go deep into the jungle? Take a journey into the Darién Gap, a place that few people in the world have seen. Completely undeveloped and many sections unexplored, this area of the jungle is so impenetrable that it represents the only missing link on the Pan-American Highway. That’s right, there are no roads that connect Central to South America! Experience the ultimate overnight stay with the Embera indigenous community and discover how they are  still living their traditional lifestyle.

Want some fun in the sun?  A visit to the San Blas Islands or Bocas del Toro will help cure anyone who is vitamin D deficient. The San Blas Islands will provide you with an off-the-grid isolated feel that you’re looking for.  Some of the best beaches and softest sand to tickle your toes are located here. Spend your days exploring the 378 islands in the San Blas archipelago where only 49 of them are inhabited. Do the math. Even if you had a year to spend in San Blas, you couldn’t hit every island!  Looking for that easy- going Caribbean vibe surrounded by serene jungles, mangroves and beaches? Pop on over to Bocas del Toro where you can snorkel and island hop by day, and then dance the night away. Both San Blas and Bocas del Toro offer amazing snorkeling and diving and both are going to make it really hard to leave!

After some hot coastal action, it’s time to cool down in the highlands of Panama. Check out Boquete, a charming little village located in the mountains and voted one of the world’s best places to retire. With  beautiful scenery and a comfortable climate, Boquete provides great outdoor activities such as hiking, whitewater rafting, horseback riding or exploring coffee plantations. So sit back, relax and enjoy that amazing cup of joe.  You never know, you might be home.

Just a little peek of what Panama has in store for you when the time comes to check out, unplug and explore a destination that truly has it all.
